31 MAY 2016 - BRANDON MAURER MAULED BY MARINERS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

David Ross
Ouch! It was hardly a red letter day for former ABL import pitcher BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) when he was torched for 0.1ip 3h 5er 2bb 1k (5.92 ERA) while his San Diego Padres were thumped 3-9 by the underrated Seattle Mariners. Maurer threw only half of his 26 pitches for strikes and he was hurt by a three-run homer in an uncharacteristic sub-par performance.

"Old Father Time" DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) batted 1-2 (.260) plus a walk to continue one of his most productive offensive campaigns as platoon catcher for the highly rated Chicago Cubs who blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-0.

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 0-3 (.263) but he did manage to draw a walk for the Philadelphia Phillies who were beaten narrowly 2-3 by the Washington Nationals.

Baltimore Orioles' reliever MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) has hit a bit of a rough patch lately, including his latest 1.2ip 1h 1er 2bb 2k (2.35 ERA) at the bitter end of their 2-7 defeat by the division leading Boston Red Sox.

30 MAY 2016 - TYLER GOEDDEL HOMER FOR PHILLIES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Tyler Goeddel
It wasn't the smoothest sailing for converted ABL infielder MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) this morning when a home run ball did most of the damage to his pitching line of 1.2ip 1h 1er 2bb 2k (2.35 ERA) while closing out the Baltimore Orioles' 2-7 defeat at the hands of the division leading Boston Red Sox.

... and yesterday

Recent ABL import infielder TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) cranked his second big league home run while batting 1-3 (.272) plus a walk for the Philadelphia Phillies who went down 2-7 to the high rolling Chicago Cubs.

29 MAY 2016 - WARWICK SAUPOLD ROCKED BY ATHLETICS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Warwick Saupold

Our beloved game of baseball rarely shows any respect for fairytales and the ups are almost certainly followed by a balancing amount of lows. So it was for Australia's latest new major league player, WARWICK SAUPOLD, whose dream start to a big league career hit a sizeable speed hump today. Warwick threw a commendable 12 of 15 pitches for strikes, but his opponents obviously enjoyed meeting some of those strikes with the barrel of their bats. It all fell apart for him when he relieved Detroit's starter for the bottom of the sixth and the hits started flowing for the beleaguered Oakland Athletics. Danny Valencia led off the frame with an infield single and Khris Davis followed with a double to left field. Veteran Billy Butler drove in a run with a RBI single to deep right then Josh Phlegley singled to left. Another run crossed when Marcus Simien doubled to deep right, allowing Jake Smolinski to plate another via a sacrifice fly. That was to be the only out for Saupold who saw a 3-3 tie descend into a 3-8 abyss. In the end his Detroit Tigers where demolished 3-12 by the battling Oakland Athletics. The rather sobering pitching line of 0.1ip 5h 5r 5er 0bb 0k resulted in a loss and a damaged record of 1-1, 9.64 ERA. These thing happen Warwick… turn the page and look forward to the next outing.

JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) didn't manage a safe hit today, but he walked twice while batting 0-2 (.249) for the Baltimore Orioles who were overrun 4-11 by the unpredictable Cleveland Indians.

Short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-3 (.272) with a walk, a RBI and a run scored for the New York Yankees who still fell 5-9 to the Tampa Bay Rays.

28 MAY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN TAKES THE WIN v WHITE SOX!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Seasoned Aussie reliever PETER MOYLAN continues to play a valuable role for the defending Champion Kansas City Royals with 1.0ip 1h 0er 0bb 1k today that earned him the win after their 7-5 win over the Chicago White Sox. Peter came into the game with his team in a 2-5 hole for the top of the seventh and the win came his way partly because he kept the scoreline right there. This enabled the Royals to mount a four-run bottom of the seventh that gained the ascendency in the contest. It began with Brett Lawrie grounding out to third before veteran Jimmy Rollins singled to right centre. There was no further pressure after he struck out Avisail Garcia and then had Dioner Navarro fly out to right field to end the frame. The win took his season record to 1-0, 2.45 EEA at the big league level.

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-3 (.270) plus a walk for the Philadelphia Phillies who fell 2-6 to the high rolling Chicago Cubs. In the opposition camp the ageless DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) was an offensive star with 1-4 (.254) and three big RBIs that delivered half of the 'Cubbies' runs for the game.

26 MAY 2016 - WARWICK SAUPOLD & PETE MOYLAN BOTH RELIEVE!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Warwick Saupold

Brandon Maurer
WARWICK SAUPOLD pitched another clean and impressive inning today with 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 2k (0.00 ERA) by throwing ten of 13 pitches for strikes during his Detroit Tigers' 5-8 loss to the upstart Philadelphia Phillies this morning. Saupold closed out the top of the ninth in the losing cause by striking out both Cesar Hernandez and Tommy Joseph, then getting declining slugger Ryan Howard to ground out to the second baseman. He's hardly put a foot wrong so far in the big leagues. In this game ABL import TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-4 (.267) as the starting left fielder for the 'Fighting Phils'.

Australia's evergreen right hander PETER MOYLAN had a mixed day with "one of each" on his pitching line for the Kansas City Royals who went down 5-7 to the battling Minnesota Twins today. His unusual line for the game was 1.0ip 1h 1r 1er 1bb 1k (2.84 ERA) after he took over for the bottom of the seventh. Pete began well by striking out Brian Dozier, then he got batting star Joe Maurer to ground out to the short stop. The tide started to go against him when his next pitch hit Miguel Sano and Robbie Grossman then walked on five pitches. Byung Ho Park hammered a RBI single to right centre to put up the final score in the contest before Moylan regrouped to end the inning with Eduardo Escobar grounding out to the third baseman.

Still making an impressive transition from middle infielder to relief pitcher is MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) who pitched a decisive 2.1ip 0h 0er 0bb 4k (1.83 ERA) for the Baltimore Orioles who were edged out 2-3 by the home standing Houston Astros after 13 innings. His team mate JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-6 (.259) as the leadoff batter during the marathon game.

Not even another terrific 3-4 (.275) plus a RBI and a run scored from short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) could prevent the New York Yankees from being doubled 4-8 by their division rival Toronto Blue Jays this morning. Yesterday Gregorius batted 1-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored to help the 'Bronx Bombers' to blank the B-Jays 6-0.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) continues to be a stalwart for the San Diego Padres bullpen with his latest 1.0ip 0h 0er 1bb 0k (4.13 ERA) near the sharp end of their narrow 3-4 defeat by the San Francisco Giants today.

Earning a spot start at centre field today is KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) who is batting 0-3 (.000) with one walk for the Milwaukee Brewers who are locked in a 2-2 tie with the Atlanta Braves after ten innings at the time of writing.

23 MAY 2016 - 4 RECENT ABL IMPORTS IN THE MIDST OF MLB ACTION!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Didi Gregorius
New York Yankees short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) came to the fore again with 2-4 (.259) that clearly helped them to sneak past the Oakland Athletics 5-4.

Left fielder TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) ripped a triple to bat 1-3 (.267) with a run scored for the Philadelphia Phillies who shut out the Atlanta Braves 5-0.

Sturdy right hander BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) supplied 1.0ip 1h 1er 0bb 1k (4.50 ERA) for the San Diego Padres during their epic 5-9 loss to the local rival Los Angeles Dodgers after 17 seemingly endless innings.

Leadoff hitter JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-3 (.263) plus a walk for the Baltimore Orioles who were whipped 2-10 by the inconsistent Los Angeles Angels.

22 MAY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN HELPS ROYALS TO BEAT CHISOX!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Tyler Goeddel
Aussie "comeback king" PETER MOYLAN kept his unblemished major league record intact this season with a decisive 1.2ip 2h 0r 0er 1bb 2k (0.00 ERA) that certainly helped his Kansas City Royals to outlast the tough Chicago White Sox 2-1 this morning. Pete entered the game with one out in the bottom of the fifth, to be greeted by a single from Tyler Saladino, however, he soon overcame that minor threat by fanning both Adam Eaton and Jose Abreu. Working the bottom of the sixth, Moylan quickly got a couple of ground ball outs to the short stop courtesy of Todd Frazier and Jerry Sands. Things then became a little tight when Melky Cabrera took a four pitch free pass and Brett Lowrie singled up the middle. The important lead was preserved when Pete got Austin Jackson to ground into an inning ending fielder's choice to the third baseman.

Playing a significant offensive role for the Tampa Bay Rays in their 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers was Platinum Glove centre fielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) with batted 1-3 (.240) with a huge three RBI triple that proved to be the difference in the result.

Also playing a big offensive role yesterday was short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) who batted a sturdy 3-5 (.252) with a pair of runs scored that helped the New York Yankees to overrun the Oakland Athletics 8-3.

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-3 (.264) as one of only two hits for the Philadelphia Phillies who were blanked 2-0 by the lowly Atlanta Braves today. Yesterday he batted 1-4 in a 1-7 defeat by the same Braves team.

Ageless backup catcher DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) batted 1-3 (.246) for the Chicago Cubs who were topped 3-5 by the San Francisco Giants on the road.

19 MAY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN RELIEVES v RED SOX!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Kevin Kiermaier

Evergreen Aussie PETER MOYLAN got just the one out while maintaining his unblemished ERA at the major league level this season by pitching 0.1ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (0.00 ERA) for the Kansas City Royals during their 2-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Taking over for the top of the seventh, Pete struck out the talented Mookie Betts on four pitches, then he was lifted when Xander Bogaerts singled into left from the first pitch he saw.

Starting left fielder TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) launched the first home run of his major league career yesterday while batting a mighty 3-4 (.262) plus a run batted in that certainly helped the Philadelphia Phillies to double the Miami Marlins 4-2.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) nailed his fifth dinger of the season while batting 1-4 (.239) plus the two RBIs for the Tampa Bay Rays who again upstaged the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3.

Leadoff batter JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-4 (.264) for the Baltimore Orioles who fell 2-7 to the unpredictable Seattle Mariners. Joey also batted 1-4 in yesterday's 5-2 win over the M's.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.238) to help the New York Yankees defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2.

Pitching another clean inning of relief was former ABL import BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who hurled 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (3.60 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who were squeaked 1-2 by the San Francisco Giants.

17 MAY 2016 - TYLER GOEDDEL BREAKS OUT FOR PHILLIES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Tyler Goeddel
Starting left fielder TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) broke out with 3-4 (.241) plus a RBI for the Philadelphia Phillies who still fell short 3-5 to the resurgent Miami Marlins.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-2 (.220) and he drove in a run via a sacrifice fly for the Tampa Bay Rays who pummelled the Toronto Blue Jays 13-2 in an unexpected blowout.

Not able to do enough offensively for the New York Yankees was short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) who batted 1-4 (.237) during their heavy 2-12 defeat by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

16 MAY 2016 - VETERAN PETE MOYLAN BACK IN THE BIG LEAGUES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Joey Rickard

37yo Australian veteran PETER MOYLAN has underlined his resilience, not to mention talent, by working his way all the way back to the major leagues yet again. After starting this season positively at 'AAA' level with the Kansas City Royals, Pete earned a recall to the big league club and he looked very sharp with an inning of relief during the Royals' 4-2 win over his original club the Atlanta Braves. Moylan was called to arms somewhat early to relieve starter Danny Duffy for the top of the fourth inning and he posted a three up, three down frame with nine of twelve pitches thrown for strikes. He fanned both Tyler Flowers and Ender Inciarte with Jeff Francouer grounding out to the short stop for the second out. His line of 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 2k (0.00 ERA) was a terrific return to the top flight for him.

It certainly didn't take long for Australia's latest new major leaguer to record a big league win when WARWICK SAUPOLD pitched a most important middle relief role for the Detroit Tigers during their cliff-hanging 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. In his second big league outing, Warwick showed the benefit of his capacity to start by pitching more than two innings to help the Tigers to bridge from their starter to the back of their bullpen. Saupold was summoned in the bottom of the fifth with one on and one out, not long after the Orioles had assumed a 5-4 lead in the contest. He was made to battle hard in that frame after powerhouse Chris Davis worked a five pitch walk, but he gained some composure by striking out Mark Trumbo. The bases were loaded when Jonathan Schoop reached on an infield single but Warwick put out the fire by punching out Pedro Alvarez to end the inning. In the bottom of the sixth only a walk issued to recent ABL import JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) marred a clean frame that included another strike out of Nolan Reimold. Facing the heart of the Baltimore lineup in the bottom of the seventh Saupold had to work around a leadoff single by Adam Jones which he did with some aplomb. He struck out Chris Davis on four pitches, then got both Mark Trumbo and Jonathan Schoop to ground out. His pitching line of 2.2ip 2h 0r 0er 2bb 4k left him with the impressive early record of 1-0, 0.00 ERA.

Joey Rickard batted 1-4 (.270) with a walk and a run scored for the Orioles while his pitching team mate MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) collected his sixth hold with 2.0ip 1h 0er 1bb 3k (2.25 ERA).

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-4 (.204) plus a walk for the Philadelphia Phillies who were trumped 4-9 by the Cincinnati Reds.

  15 MAY 2016 - WARWICK SAUPOLD BECOMES AUSTRALIA'S 32nd MAJOR!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

WARWICK
SAUPOLD
No.32
'Flintoff & Dunn' CONGRATULATES AUSTRALIA'S No.32 player to reach the US major leagues on
15 May 2016 (AUS time), 26yo West Australian right hand Pitcher WARWICK SAUPOLD.

Well subscribers, it has been a very long time coming - over four and a half years - 1,712 days in fact, since his former West Australian team mate LIAM HENDRIKS became the 31st Aussie to ascend to the US major leagues with the Minnesota Twins.
Warwick virtually knocked the door down for a big league call-up by owning a 3-1, 2.37 ERA record from eight outings at 'AAA" Toledo this season that has included four starts. He made his major league debut for the Detroit Tigers on the road in Baltimore at Oriole Park, Camden Yards at the end of his team's 3-9 loss to the O's. 32,174 fans saw our latest Aussie big leaguer take the ball for the last couple of outs just after Jonathan Schoop had clocked a grand slam home run to pad the Orioles' lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With just two pitches he had Hyun Soo Kim ground out to the second baseman before recent ABL import JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) singled into left field. He was stranded on base when Saupold had young star Manny Machado ground back to the mound for his own assist.
His debut pitching line was 0.2ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (0.00 ERA). Once again our hearty congratulations to you Warwick!
Rickard batted 1-5 (.271) at the top of the Orioles' lineup card.

Didi Gregorius
DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) was the offensive star of the game with 3-3 (.243) for the New York Yankees who sneaked past the Chicago White Sox 2-1.

Helping the Tampa Bay Rays to shut out the Oakland Athletics 6-0 was centre fielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) who batted 1-3 (.214) plus a walk, a RBI and a run scored.

Another outfielder, TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014), batted 2-3 (.200) with a walk and a run scored to assist the Philadelphia Phillies to get over the line 4-3 against the Cincinnati Reds.

Relief pitcher BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) copped a blown save with 1.1ip 2h 2r 1er 1bb 2k (3.79 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who fought back to eventually outlast the Milwaukee Brewers 8-7 after twelve long innings.

11 MAY 2016 - FORMER AMLB IMPORTS MAKING VITAL CONTRIBUTIONS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Didi Gregorius

Joey Rickard

Starting short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) clocked his third home run of the season today while batting 1-4 (.221) with two RBIs for the New York Yankees to help them to overcome the Kansas City Royals 7-3.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) took his tally for holds into double-digits with his latest 1.0ip 1h 0er 1bb 1k (3.57 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who rolled the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0 this morning. This came after he recorded his ninth hold yesterday with an identical 1.0ip 1h 0er 1bb 1k in the Padres' 7-4 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Settling in nicely as the leadoff batter for the Baltimore Orioles is left fielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) who batted 1-4 with a walk and a run scored in their 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers. Rickard batted 1-5 in yesterday's 9-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. In that game MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched a useful 1.0ip 2h 0er 0bb 1k (2.57 ERA) for the 'Orange Birds'.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-5 (.208) with a RBI for the Tampa Bay Rays who fell short in a 5-6 loss to the in-form Seattle Mariners.

11 MAY 2016 - FORMER AMLB IMPORTS MAKING VITAL CONTRIBUTIONS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Didi Gregorius
New York Yankees short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) was near the front of the headlines with a decisive pair of doubles that played a pivotal role in helping the "Evil Empire" to beat the defending World Champion Kansas City Royals 10-7 in the Bronx. In a game of back-and-forth scoring, Gregorius batted 2-4 (.229) with three huge RBIs and a run scored that all arrived at critical times in the game.

Left fielder TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) contributed 1-4 (.167) for the Philadelphia Phillies to help them to edge the scuffling and undermanned Atlanta Braves 3-2.

Evergreen DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) was back behind the dish receiving his No.1 man Jon Lester yesterday. He batted 0-2 but he also walked and drove in a vital run via a sacrifice fly that helped the Chicago Cubs to continue rolling 8-7 over the pesky San Diego Padres.

JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-4 (.284) as the leadoff batter and starting left fielder for the Baltimore Orioles who topped the Minnesota Twins 5-3.

9 MAY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS HURT BY BALTIMORE!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Ji-Man Choi

Unfortunately Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS was on the wrong end of some hot bats with 1.2ip 4h 3r 3er 0bb 1k (8.27 ERA) for the Oakland Athletics who still doubled the tough Baltimore Orioles 8-4. On this occasion Liam had plenty of runs to play with when he took over for the bottom of the eighth with an 8-1 lead and this in not usually the preferred situation for relievers to pitch. He began convincingly with a tidy 1-2-3 inning that saw Mark Trumbo struck out swinging, Adam Jones grounding out to short and Matt Wieters popping out on the infield. Hendriks continued to pound the strike zone hoping to finish the game in the bottom of the ninth, but it cost him a few runs. The frame started with singles from Nolan Reimold and Jonathan Schoop before he got Paul Janish to line out to right. Recent ABL import JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) drove in the first run via a rather fortunate infield single ahead of the second out when Hyun Soo Kim grounded out to the second baseman. Another pair of runs scored against our man when the experienced Pedro Alvarez doubled to left centre to prevent Hendriks from finishing off the task.
Rickard had a very good day for the O's with 2-4 plus a walk, a RBI and a run scored. The leadoff batter carried that form over to today when he batted 2-3 (.286) with another walk, another RBI and three runs scored in Baltimore's 11-3 win over the A's. He appears set for a lengthy stay at the top flight.

Recent ABL import TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) played a significant offensive role for the Philadelphia Phillies today with 1-4 (.158) and two most important RBIs to help them to sneak past the Miami Marlins 6-5. Goeddel was today's starting left fielder for the 'Phils'.

Another former ABL alumni JI-MAN CHOI (Adelaide Bite 2013) has ascended to the big leagues this season. He batted 0-2 (.059) while starting at left field today for the Los Angeles Angels who fell 1-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) hurled another scoreless frame with 1.0ip 0h 0er 2bb 1k (4.02 ERA) for the San Diego Padres during their narrow 3-4 defeat at the hands of the New York Mets.

8 MAY 2016 - DIDI GREGORIUS HELPS YANKS TO BEAT RIVAL BOSTON!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Didi Gregorius
Short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) picked a good time to make a major offensive contribution for the New York Yankees today when he batted 2-3 (.235) with a run scored and three RBIs that helped them to beat their chief rival the Boston Red Sox 8-2 today. Gregorius' came through with a huge, bases clearing, three RBI double that broke the game open for the 'Bronx Bombers' at New Yankee Stadium. Yesterday Gregorius batted 1-3 in the Yankees controversial 3-2 win over the 'Bosox'.

DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) batted 1-4 (.250) to help the Chicago Cubs to overcome the Washington Nationals 8-6 yesterday.

In other MLB action yesterday, reliable reliever BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) pocketed his eighth save of the season with a convincing 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (4.30 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who blanked the New York Mets 2-0 at Petco Park.

5 MAY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS STRONG IN LOSS TO SEATTLE!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Tyler Goeddel

Despite toiling in a long lost cause, Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS took a sizeable chunk out of his ERA with an impressive 2.0ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 3k (7.36 ERA) for the Oakland Athletics at the end of their 2-8 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Not for the first time this season Liam was asked to halt the considerable momentum of the opposition in the top of the eighth immediately in response to Kyle Seager's three run homer that extended the M's lead to 8-1 at the time. With nobody out in the inning he was greeted by a base hit from Ketel Marte before he took control and cleaned up the three outs in quick succession. Hendriks struck out Steve Clevenger before getting ground ball outs from Leonys Martin and Norichika Aoki. In the top of the ninth our Aussie fanned both Seth Smith and Luis Sardinas before getting Dae-Ho Lee to ground out to short. No doubt it was a confidence builder for Hendriks who hasn't had much luck of recent times and, when you see strike outs and ground balls featuring in his outs, you can be pretty sure that he has things working in the right direction.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.222) with a run batted in for the New York Yankees who went down 1-4 to the in-form Baltimore Orioles. In the same game another new major leaguer with an ABL background JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 0-4 (.267) while playing both corner outfield positions and batting in the leadoff slot for the O's.

Another 2016 major league debutant with a recent ABL background and a team mate of Joey Rickard, TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) made a start at left field for the Philadelphia Phillies in their 4-3 win over the St Louis Cardinals. He batted 0-3 (.143).

Platinum Glove winning outfielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-2 (.247) with a RBI after pinch hitting for the for the Tampa Bay Rays during their 8-5 win over the LA Dodgers today. Yesterday he batted 1-4 (.239) for the Rays who were doubled 5-10 by the Dodgers.

Reliable reliever BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) took hold No.7 for the season by pitching a strong 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (4.61 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who topped the Colorado Rockies 6-3.

Evergreen catcher DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) didn't manage a safe hit, but he walked twice for the Chicago Cubs who kept rolling 6-2 over the Pittsburgh Pirates this morning.

4 MAY 2016 - VETERAN DAVID ROSS DELIVERS AGAIN FOR CUBBIES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

David Ross
One of America's most popular evergreen baseball players, DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001), continues to be a linchpin of team success with his latest club the Chicago Cubs. The defensive minded catcher came through offensively for the 'Cubbies' with two out, two RBI single that dumped just inside the right field line as a game-breaker in their 7-2 road win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ross batted 1-4 (.265) plus a walk and the two big runs batted in.

Former ABL pitcher BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) recorded his sixth hold of the young season with a quick-fire 0.2ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (4.97 ERA) for the San Diego Padres to help them to hang on for a tight 2-1 victory over the visiting Colorado Rockies.

2 MAY 2016 - AUSSIE ACE GRANT BALFOUR RETIRES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Grant Balfour
It always comes with a hint of sadness when a long-time sports star hangs up his boots but, in the case of 38yo Australian pitching ace GRANT BALFOUR, it should be greeted with a bit more commentary than most. OK, we know that baseball is still a "minority sport" in Australia, yet it should not pass without paying tribute to one of our very finest baseball products.
The son of Sydney baseball stalwart David (only recently deceased) ranks right up there with David Nilsson, Graeme Lloyd and very few others as one of our elite players who spent significant time in the US major leagues - the absolute pinnacle of our sport. In his prime Grant earned All Star status as a highly charged, ultra competitive, flame throwing reliever / closer who was universally recognised as one of the best of his art.
In a professional career that spans back to 1997 when he was originally signed by the Minnesota Twins, Balfour spent twelve seasons in the major leagues and you have to be a terrific player to achieve that. Australian baseball fans should all recognise the end of a career for a player that history will record as one of our very greatest.
'Flintoff & Dunn' salutes you GRANT BALFOUR! Thank you for flying the Aussie flag so well for so long...
2 MAY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS STRONG IN LOSS TO ASTROS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks
Aussie reliever LIAM HENDRIKS enjoyed a strong scoreless inning this morning with 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 1k for the Oakland Athletics who were narrowly beaten 1-2 by the Houston Astros at Oakland Coliseum.

Liam pitched the top of the seventh with his team trailing 0-2 and he kept the dangerous Astros at bay with a positive outing. He began by striking out Marwin Gonzalez after a nine pitch full count battle.

Hendriks then "pitched around" Jason Castro with a four pitch walk before getting All Star Jose Altuve to ground into a brilliant inning ending double play to the short stop. The "pitcher's friend" double play ground ball is a feature of the Hendriks arsenal.
