30 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS DOES ALL HE CAN FOR OAKLAND IN LOSS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks
Aussie star LIAM HENDRIKS did all that he could this morning by pitching his Oakland Athletics out of further possible trouble while on their way to a 1-6 defeat at the hands of the tough Houston Astros.
Liam was summoned from the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth just after the 'Stros had homered for their third run of the inning and still with none out. He got veteran slugger Carlos Beltran to pop out to the third baseman, Evan Gattis to fly out to centre field and then struck out Marwin Gonzalez to end the frame.
Hendriks simply couldn't do any more than post his tidy 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (4.81 ERA) today.

Also doing his job as the leadoff batter for the Baltimore Orioles today was left fielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) who batted a solid 2-3 (.256) plus a walk to help them to overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

29 JUN 2017 - WARWICK SAUPOLD LION HEARTED IN LOSS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Warwick Saupold
Not for the first time, Australia's WARWICK SAUPOLD was called upon to be the "long man" for the Detroit Tigers today during their 2-8 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Saupold threw 55 pitches to pilot his four-plus innings to finish with the creditable pitching line of 4.1ip 3h 1r 1er 2bb 1k (2.36 ERA). Warwick came to the bump in the top of the fourth to face a rampant KC lineup who had just shelled Detroit starter Daniel Norris with runners perched on the corners and two out. He loaded the bags with a full count walk to Jorge Bonifacio before escaping the jam when Lorenzo Cain lined his first pitch to the left fielder. Saupold then steadied the Tigers' ship in the fifth with three outfield outs from Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakis. Another 1-2-3 sixth followed with Jorge Soler grounding out to third, Alcides Escobar popping out to second and Alex Gordon grounding out back to the mound. Saupold may have been starting to tire in the top of the seventh after securing ground ball outs from Whit Merrifield and Jorge Bonifacio, because Lorenzo Cain singled and Eric Hosmer walked to present a threat. However, he found enough gas to punch out Sal Perez on a foul tip to end the inning. As it turned out Warwick had one more frame left in him, but it proved to be tough work when Mike Moustakis ripped a leadoff double and Elcides Escobar reached on an infield single after Jorge Soler had grounded out. Thankfully he summoned a couple of quick ground balls from Alex Gordon and Whit Merrifield to avoid further damage and to finish off a very good day's work in a losing cause.

Starting centrefielder KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) wasn't able to find a hit, but he did manage to work a walk while batting 0-2 (.249) for the Milwaukee Brewers who lost narrowly 3-4 on the road to the Cincinnati Reds.

28 JUN 2017 - PETE MOYLAN TRIES TO HELP KANSAS IN LOSS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan
Australian evergreen PETER MOYLAN provided some decent middle relief that proved to be not quite enough for the Kansas City Royals who fell 3-5 to the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park today. After KC starter Matt Strahm struggled, Pete was given an early SOS call to the bullpen in the bottom of the fourth with two on and two out. Unfortunately, Pete was unable to stop another run scoring for the Tigers when Ian Kinsler poked a RBI single up the middle, but he didn't allow any further damage by getting Mikie Mahtook to pop out to the first baseman to end the inning. Moylan then battled to post a scoreless bottom of the fifth with Justin Upton grounding out to the first baseman on a pitcher's cover before superstar Miguel Cabrera reached on a fielding error by the centre fielder. A full count walk milked by J.D Martinez increased the threat, but Pete responded to punch out Nick Castellanos and then he got John Hicks to to ground out to the third baseman. It left him with today's line of 1.1ip 1h 0r 0er 1bb 1k (6.48 ERA).

Converted short stop MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) collected his 13th hold of the season with 1.2ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 2k (2.31 ERA) that helped his Baltimore Orioles to outlast the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on the road. JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 0-1 (.246) after coming into the game as a pinch runner.

26 JUN 2017 - WARWICK SAUPOLD SOLID - PETER MOYLAN EJECTED!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Warwick Saupold

Adam Engel

Aussie WARWICK SAUPOLD pitched a solid 1.0ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (2.42 ERA) to help the Detroit Tigers to outlast the San Diego Padres 7-5 this morning. In the bottom of the fifth, Warwick got Cory Spangenberg to fly out to centre ahead of Austin Hedges' one out single into left. Any possible threat was soon hosed down when Saupold got Erick Aybar to ground into an inning ending double play to the second baseman. Closer BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) took the loss for San Diego with 1.0ip 2h 2er 1bb 0k to take his season record to 0-4, 6.53 ERA.

Australian veteran PETER MOYLAN was unable to stop the bleeding for the Kansas City Royals who were already on the ropes early during their 2-8 hammering at the hands of the dangerous Toronto Blue Jays. In the sixth inning, just after Toronto had tied the game in the previous frame, Pete was called to action with the bag juiced and nobody out in the midst of a big rally. Moylan quickly surrendered the lead when Jose Bautista worked a five pitch walk to push across a run before things really unravelled when another run scored via a fielding error. Former American League MVP Josh Donaldson then drove in a pair with his double to right that saw Moylan ejected from the game. It was a rather unhappy 0.0ip 1h 2r 1er 1bb 0k (6.35 ERA) outing for him today.

ADAM ENGEL (Melbourne Aces 2015) seems to be finding his feet in the big leagues with his first long ball of the season coming while he batted 1-3 (.308) as the starting centrefielder for the Chicago White Sox who were swept aside 3-5 by the in-form Oakland Athletics.

Short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.312) with a RBI that was not quite enough for the New York Yankees who were edged 6-7 by the Texas Rangers at home today.

Leadoff batter JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-5 (.248) with a RBI and a run scored for the Baltimore Orioles who recorded a strong 8-5 win on the road over their division rival Tampa Bay Rays.

25 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS & PETER MOYLAN BOTH TERRIFIC IN RELIEF!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Brandon Maurer

Aussie reliever LIAM HENDRIKS was also impressive with 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 2k (4.13 ERA) that earned him his seventh hold of the season for the Oakland Athletics who blanked the Chicago White Sox 3-0. Following a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth, Liam took the ball to quell any threat from the 'Chisox'. He battled former ABL import ADAM ENGEL (Melbourne Aces 2015) who finally flied out to centre field, then he struck out veteran Melky Cabrera and slugger Jose Abreu, both on just three pitches. It was really potent stuff from Hendriks when it counted. Engel batted 0-3 (.314) in this game.

Australia's "grand master" PETER MOYLAN wrapped up a couple more relief outs for the Kansas City Royals as part of their narrow 5-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. With the lead runner on second and one out after a sac bunt in the top of the seventh, big Pete pitched to a dangerous part of the Jays' lineup, beginning with veteran slugger Jose Bautista who he struck out swinging. Catcher Russel Martin worked a full count walk before Moylan struck out former MVP Josh Donaldson also on a full count. He finished with the line of 0.2ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 2k (6.46 ERA) after another strong effort here.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) notched save No.14 with a tidy 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (6.14 ERA) as the closer for the San Diego Padres in their tight 1-0 win over the Detroit Tigers.

A couple of former ABL imports really helped the Baltimore Orioles to roll over the division rival Tampa Bay Rays 8-3 today. JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 2-5 (.250) and scored a run as the starting left fielder, while MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched 1.1ip 1h 0er 0bb 1k (2.41 ERA) of late relief.

23 JUN 2017 - ADAM ENGEL BATS 4-5 FOR WHITE SOX!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Adam Engel
Our most recent ABL import player to reach the US major leagues, ADAM ENGEL (Melbourne Aces 2015), had a career day with the bat today, rattling up 4-5 (.344) with two RBIs as the starting centre fielder and #9 hole hitter for the Chicago White Sox who blanked the Minnesota Twins 9-0.

KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) did not manage a hit, but he did walk once while batting 0-3 (.236) for the Milwaukee Brewers who doubled the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2.

22 JUN 2017 - WARWICK SAUPOLD SOLID, LIAM HENDRIKS HASSLED!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Brandon Maurer

West Aussie LIAM HENDRIKS was one of the Oakland Athletic' pitchers to find the going tough, along with starter Sonny Gray, during their 4-8 loss to the league leading Houston Astros.
Pitching the top of the eighth, Liam was immediately under the pump when Alex Bregman doubled to right to lead off the inning, followed by a walk issued to Jake Marisnick. Hendriks steadied somewhat by getting George Springer to fly out to centre and then punching out Josh Reddick. After a coaching visit to the mound it is likely that Liam was advised to issue a free pass to All Star Jose Altuve that loaded the bags.
The strategy came unstuck when young gun Carlos Correa lined a two RBI single into centre field. With the damage already done, he got veteran catcher Brian McCann to line out to right to end the inning, leaving him with the line of 1.0ip 2h 2r 2er 2bb 1k (4.26 ERA).

WA compatriot WARWICK SAUPOLD supplied a little late relief for the Detroit Tigers with 0.2ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (2.66 ERA) near the end of their 4-5 defeat by the Seattle Mariners.
Saupold took over to begin the bottom of the ninth in a tied ballgame and he felt a bit of heat right away when Mike Zunino singled up the middle. He then thwarted a sacrifice bunt attempt by Taylor Motter when he caught a pop up himself. Warwick secured the second out by fanning Ben Gamel, but he didn't get to finish the inning when he hit Mitch Haniger with a pitch.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) grasped his 13th save of the season with 0.2ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k (6.35 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who hung on to beat the World Champion Chicago Cubs 3-2.

Earning his 12th hold of the season was the reliable MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) who pitched 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k (2.50 ERA) for the Baltimore Orioles who outlasted the Cleveland Indians 6-5 at home.

20 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS DOES HIS JOB FOR OAKLAND!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks
On this rare occasion, Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS, who was originally a starting pitcher and who has often been the "long man", was called upon to supply a brief outing today for the Oakland Athletics who were stifled 1-4 by the tough Houston Astros. With a runner in scoring position on second and two out in the top of the seventh, Liam walked heavy hitter Jake Marisnick on a full count before deftly picking off the runner on second to end the inning. Having done his job in the seventh Hendriks did not return today, leaving him with the line of 0.1ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 0k (3.82 ERA).

Centrefielder KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) batted 1-3 (.235) plus a walk this morning, yet it was not enough for the Milwaukee Brewers who were hammered 1-8 by the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.

19 JUN 2017 - WARWICK SAUPOLD MOST EFFICIENT - PETER MOYLAN OK!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Warwick Saupold

Didi Gregorius

Australia's WARWICK SAUPOLD keeps putting his hand up for an extended stay in the major leagues with another incredibly efficient effort today when he needed only four pitches to navigate a clean inning for the Detroit Tigers during their 1-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. After the Tigers' pitchers before him had struggled mightily, Warwick put away the top of the eighth when Daniel Robertson grounded his first pitch to the second baseman, Derek Norris lofted his second pitch for a fly out to centrefield and Mallex Smith lasted just two pitches before grounding out to the first baseman. It simply doesn't much more emphatic than his 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (2.75 ERA) today.

Veteran Aussie PETER MOYLAN wasn't quite so quick to put away his scoreless inning today for the Kansas City Royals with 1.0ip 1h 0r 0er 1bb 1k (6.65 ERA) as a middle reliever during their 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Moylan began the top of the seventh by punching out Cameron Maybin before Kole Calhoun got aboard via a one out single to left. Veteran slugger Albert Pujols flied out to left and Yunel Escobar lined out to right to complete the scoreless frame. Pete returned to start the bottom of the eighth, but he was given the hook promptly after issuing a four pitch walk to 'Halos' short stop Andrelton Simmons.

New York Yankees short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) clouted his seventh dinger of the season today while batting 2-4 (.330), yet it was to little avail when his team was edged 3-4 by the feisty Oakland Athletics.

Starting centrefielder KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) batted 1-3 (.234) for the Milwaukee Brewers to help them to sneak past the San Diego Padres 2-1 this morning.

18 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS SUBDUES YANKEES FOR SIXTH HOLD!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks
Aussie star LIAM HENDRIKS might have been a trifle fortunate to pick up a win from his last outing, but there was nothing fortunate about his most impressive outing this morning that earned him his sixth hold of the season as he helped the Oakland Athletics to prevail 5-2 over the New York Yankees. Liam threw nine of eleven pitches for strikes to post a really efficient 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 2k (3.86 ERA) while tucking away a clean top of the sixth inning. In short order Liam fanned both Didi Gregorius and Chris Carter ahead of getting Ronald Torreyes to ground out to the second baseman. It was a thoroughly convincing performance from our man today. DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) came up empty in this game with 0-4 (.326) as a rare barren day for him lately.

An infielder during his season in the ABL, MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched another most valuable outing of 2.1ip 1h 0er 0bb 3k (2.57 ERA) in relief for the Baltimore Orioles who outslugged the St. Louis Cardinals 15-7 today. Also contributing briefly for the 'O Birds' was outfielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) who scored a run as a pinch runner in this game.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) wasn't so effective today with 1.0ip 2h 2er 0bb 0k (6.51 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who hung on to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 in eleven innings.

17 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS WINS 3RD; WARWICK SAUPOLD STRONG!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Warwick Saupold

Australian LIAM HENDRIKS responded well to another "high leverage situation" to ultimately be rewarded with his his third win of the season when his Oakland Athletics won a topsy-turvy 8-7 game against the New York Yankees over ten innings. Liam wasn't exactly unscathed while pitching the top of the tenth in Oakland Coliseum, yet you have to take the good with the bad as a relief pitcher and, in this case, he'll take it!
He started the inning well by striking out Austin Romine, but the pressure came when Brett Gardner singled into right and Rob Refsnyder followed with a fortunate soft roller to the third baseman for an infield single. After Refsnyder stole second base to open first base, it became a "no brainer" to issue an intentional walk to young powerhouse Aaron Judge. Unfortunately for Hedriks, he couldn't prevent Starlin Castro from lifting a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run. Most importantly, he prevented further damage by striking out experienced slugger Matt Hoiday to end the inning. It was a pivotal moment that gave the A's a chance to rally back for the big walk off victory in the home half of the tenth. The line of 1.0ip 2h 1r 1er 1bb 2k improved Liam's season record to 3-1, 3.99 ERA. In the opposing camp, DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-5 (.333) with a run scored for the Yanks.

Fellow West Aussie WARWICK SAUPOLD contributed two clean innings for the Detroit Tigers today as part of their big 13-4 home win over the Tampa Bay Rays today. Warwick came to the mound with a runner on first and nobody out in the top of the seventh and he immediately took control with a ground ball double play when Jesus Sucre rolled one to the second baseman, then he ended the inning with Peter Bourjos grounding out to the first baseman. He then returned for the top of the eighth with a three up, three down inning as Steven Souza Jr. flied out to centre field, Corey Dickerson grounded out to short and Michael Martinez flied out to centre. His 2.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (2.98 ERA) was a very worthwhile outing.

15 JUN 2017 - PETER MOYLAN HOLDS; LIAM HENDRIKS WORKS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Brandon Maurer

Seasoned Australian reliever PETER MOYLAN required just the one out to collect his ninth hold of the season this morning with 0.1ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (6.95 ERA) for the Kansas City Royals in their 7-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. With two on and two out in the bottom of the seventh, Pete did his job by getting All Star Catcher Buster Posey grounding out back to the mound for Moylan to complete the big inning ending assist.

Aussie right hander LIAM HENDRIKS was made to work a bit to get through the sixth inning today while pitching relief for the Oakland Athletics during their 6-11 away loss to the Miami Marlins today.
Liam needed to throw 27 pitches to record 1.0ip 2h 1r 1er 0bb 2k (3.81 ERA). It all began with Team USA star Christian Yelich poking a leadoff single up the middle that lead to a stolen base, then Marcell Ozuna delivered a RBI double into centre field. After that rather rude greeting, Hendriks held firm to strike out both J.T. Realmuto and Derek Deitrich before getting Tyler Moore to fly out to right to end the inning.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) responded well to his return to the closer's role today by earning his 12th save of the season with a tidy 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (6.15 ERA) for the San Diego Padres who doubled the Cincinnati Reds 4-2.

As today's starting left fielder and leadoff hitter JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted a handy 2-4 (.275) with a run scored for the Baltimore Orioles who still fell 1-6 to the home standing Chicago White Sox.

12 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS COPS BLOWN SAVE IN TAMPA BAY!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks
Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS took his second blown save of the season yesterday after pitching 0.2ip 2h 1r 1er 0bb 1k (3.62 ERA) for the Oakland Athletics in their narrow 4-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Liam had a 4-3 lead when he took the hill for the bottom of the sixth, but it didn't last long when Tampa's leadoff batter Colby Rasmus homered over centre field to tie it up. Tim Beckham followed with a single to the third baseman before Hendriks steadied to have Derek Norris fly out to right and Daniel Robertson struck out swinging to end his day.

New York Yankees short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) keeps his average solidly above the .300 plateau with 2-5 (.327) in their big 14-3 thrashing of the Baltimore Orioles.

11 JUN 2017 - WARWICK SAUPOLD & LIAM HENDRIKS BOTH TAKE LOSSES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Warwick Saupold

Peter Moylan

Aussie reliever WARWICK SAUPOLD found his recent run of brilliant form hit the proverbial wall today when he ran into a buzz saw of Boston Red Sox offence near the end of his Detroit Tigers' 3-11 loss at Fenway Park. With the game delicately poised at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Warwick was asked to get the third out with one runner aboard and he obliged by getting the dangerous Mookie Betts to fly out to centre field. However, it didn't go so well for Saupold when he returned for the bottom of the seventh when the Red Sox rallied via the heart of their lineup with Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts both nailing singles to set up Mitch Moreland's two RBI double. He struck out Andrew Benintendi and got Hanley Ramirez to ground out to short either side of a wild pitch, then he intentionally walked Jackie Bradley Jnr. A third run was added to his account when Josh Rutledge came through with another RBI single before our guy was given the hook.
In the process Saupold was saddled with his first loss of the season while pitching 1.0ip 4h 3r 3er 1bb 1k as his record slipped to 1-1, 3.24 ERA.

Fellow West Aussie reliever LIAM HENDRIKS also took a loss this morning in the nightcap of a double header for his Oakland Athletics who were pipped in the tenth inning 5-6 by the home standing Tampa Bay Rays.
It all ended rather abruptly for Liam when he took the ball for the bottom of the tenth and Tampa pounced upon him via a Peter Bourjos leadoff single, a wild pitch and Evan Longoria's game winning, walkoff RBI single into left. His line of 0.0ip 2h 1r 1er 0bb 0k left him with a 2-1, 3.38 ERA record.

At least veteran PETER MOYLAN came through unscathed after getting just the one out for the Kansas City Royals during their easy 12-6 doubling of the San Diego Padres. Pete's 0.1ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (7.06 ERA) came with two on and two out when he got Jose Pirela to ground out to end the bottom of the eighth.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) spanked his sixth long ball of the season today while batting 2-5 (.325) with two RBIs to help pad the flying New York Yankees huge 16-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) came into the game as defensive replacement at centrefield for the O's to bat a perfect 1-1 (.269) with a RBI and a run scored in the losing cause.

9 JUN 2017 - WARWICK SAUPOLD CLEAN, PETER MOYLAN NOT SO!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Australia's WARWICK SAUPOLD pitched another clean inning with great efficiency at the end of his Detroit Tigers 4-11 loss to the travelling Los Angeles Angels. Warwick handled the top of the ninth with a minimum of fuss, having C.J Cron foul out to the catcher, Shane Robinson also foul out to the catcher and Eric Young Jnr. fly out to left field. His quick-fire 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (1.72 ERA) saw him throw only seven pitches to complete the stanza.

Evergreen Aussie PETER MOYLAN could not emerge with a clean sheet this morning when the visiting Houston Astros piled on five runs at the end of their 6-1 win over his Kansas City Royals. Pete was left with the line of 0.2ip 2h 1r 1er 1bb 1k (7.52 ERA) as the last pitcher used by the Royals in the top of the ninth.
Pete came to the bump with one on and one out in the top of the ninth just after his team had gone 1-4 down and the 'Stros kept the line moving when Yuli Gurriel doubled to right and Alex Bregman walked to load the bags. Jake Marisnick followed with a two RBI single before Moylan finally stopped the bleeding with George Springer grounding into a fielder's choice to the second baseman and Josh Reddick struck out swinging.

Enduring a rough patch was BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who seems to have lost his closers job with the San Diego Padres for the time being at least. This morning he was dealt harshly with the pitching line of 0.0ip 4h 4r 4er 1bb 0k (6.75 ERA) as the Padres were bashed up 3-15 by the unpredictable Arizona Diamondbacks.

After going deep for the fifth time this season yesterday, short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 2-4 (.324) for the New York Yankees to help them to beat bitter division rivals the Boston Red Sox 9-1 today at New Yankee Stadium.

Starting centrefielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-3 (.267) with a run batted in for the Baltimore Orioles during their 1-6 defeat at the hands of the Washington Nationals.

Our latest former ABL major leaguer ADAM ENGEL (Melbourne Aces 2015) did his job as the leadoff batter for the Chicago White Sox by batting 2-5 (.250) in their 5-7 road loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Rival centrefielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-3 (.258) with a RBI for the Rays.

8 JUN 2017 - LIAM HENDRIKS & PETER MOYLAN BOTH STRONG AGAIN!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Kevin Kiermaier

Aussie LIAM HENDRIKS was exceptionally sharp again today with a most effective 2.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 3k (3.04 ERA) for the Oakland Athletics, even though they couldn't defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in a 5-7 home loss after ten innings. Liam held the fort superbly over the eighth and ninth innings, starting with the eighth when he got Kendrys Morales to ground out the the first baseman on a pitcher's cover, Justin Smoak to fly out to right and Troy Tulowitzky struck out swinging. He was just as deadly in the top of the ninth when he fanned both Chris Coghlan and Ryan Goins in rapid style after getting Russell Martin to ground out to short.
He certainly helped to keep the game locked at 4-4, but it fell apart for the A's in the tenth after Hendriks departed the game.

Australia's "elder statesman" PETER MOYLAN contributed a tidy inning of middle relief today with 1.0ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (7.45 ERA) for the Kansas City Royals who were outscored 3-7 by the streaking Houston Astros. With two out in the top of the seventh, big Pete needed just the one pitch to get powerhouse George Springer to ground out back to himself on the hill. Moylan then tucked away another two outs in the eighth after Josh Reddick led off the inning with a double to right. Jose Altuve grounded out to short and Carlos Correa popped out to second. It was his not fault that the game went against KC.

In another recent game KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) was running hot with the stick, batting 3-4 (.261) for the Tampa Bay Rays in a 2-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Former ABL star short stop import MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) did his job in relief once again with 1.0ip 0h 0er 1bb 3k (2.79 ERA) for the Baltimore Orioles to help them to edge the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5.

Australian pitching ace LIAM HENDRIKS posted another excellent middle relief effort that earned him a win when he helped his Oakland Athletics to a big 10-4 win over the strong Washington Nationals lineup.
Liam got the call from the bullpen with two runners on and two out in the top of the fifth. He loaded the bags with a "careful walk" issued to Adam Lind, yet he de-fused that sticky situation by striking out Michael Taylor on three pitches to the delight of his team mates and coaching staff. Returning for the top of the next, Hendriks was again efficient, even when a hit and a defensive error occurred in the inning. He first got Stephen Drew to ground out to short and Jose Lobaton to to strike out swinging before Brian Goodwin poked a "floater" into centre field. A subsequent fielding error placed runners on the corners, but the Aussie responded by fanning the very dangerous Jayson Werth on only four pitches! His high quality 1.1ip 1h 0r 0er 1bb 3k performance improved his increasingly impressive record to 2-0, 3.04 ERA.

Fellow West Aussie, WARWICK SAUPOLD, was also terrific today with four stout innings as the "long man" for the Detroit Tigers who he helped to recover with a 7-4 win over their division rival Chicago White Sox.
With four scoreless innings, we won't detail each batter he faced for the line of 4.0ip 2h 0r 0er 0bb 4k, 1.84 ERA that pretty much speaks for itself. Saupold was asked to take over early in the top of the third just after the 'Chisox' had homered for a 2-0 lead and a following walk to put one runner on. A caught stealing and a couple of ground outs put that inning to bed. Saupold then struck out Willy Garcia, Todd Frazier, Tim Anderson and ADAM ENGEL (Melbourne Aces 2015) over the next three frames in a most convincing effort for his ballclub. Engel has become our latest former ABL import to reach the US majors recently and he batted 1-5 (.182) as the leadoff hitter and centre fielder for the White Sox in this game.

In other MLB news from the weekend:

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) homered for the fourth time this year for the New York Yankees in their 7-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Outfielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 2-4 and 1-4 as leadoff batter for the Baltimore Orioles who lost a pair of home games to the visiting Boston Red Sox who levelled the pivotal series at Camden Yards.

Australia's 32nd major league player, WARWICK SAUPOLD, was a key factor for the Detroit Tigers with a win and three very clean innings of middle relief that certainly helped them to get the better of the Kansas City Royals 6-5 at Kauffman Stadium. Warwick was summoned from the bullpen early in the bottom of the fourth after starter Matthew Boyd was lifted with one on and two out, yet he didn't need to do much to end that inning when the base runner was caught stealing on his first pitch. Back for the bottom of the fifth, Saupold disposed of the heart of the Royals lineup with three ground balls, starting with Lorenzo Cain to the second baseman, then Eric Hosmer back to the mound and Salvador Perez to the second baseman. He turned to the ground ball again in the sixth with Jorge Bonifacio grounding out to short, Whit Merrifield likewise to short and Cheslor Cuthbert back to himself as the pitcher. Warwick added a couple more outs in the seventh via the ground ball - Drew Butera rolled over one to short and Alex Gordon grounded to second ahead of Alcides Escobar's single into left. After 36 pitches he was relieved having done a sterling job of eating three innings for his team in a time of need. His line of 3.0ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 0k that improved his record to 1-0, 2.53 ERA was a terrific return on the day for our man.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) secured his eighth save of the season after pitching 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k (5.73 ERA) at the end of the San Diego Padres 2-1 win and seri3es sweep of the World Champion Chicago Cubs.

Seemingly on a hitting roll lately, star outfielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) launched his second home run in two days and his sixth of the year while batting 1-5 (.246) for the Tampa Bay Rays ????? The Texas Rangers.

Fellow centrefielder KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) also clocked his sixth long ball of the season today while batting 1-4 (.248) for the Milwaukee Brewers to help them surge to a 7-1 win over the New York Mets.

Baltimore Orioles reliever MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) took his ninth hold with a strong 1.2ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (2.96 ERA) to help ensure a 10-4 home win over the New York Yankees.
