30 JULY 2015 - LIAM HENDRIKS DAZZLES IN TORONTO LOSS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Unfortunately all of the scoring in this game occurred before the arrival of Aussie ace LIAM HENDRIKS who put on a "master class" of relief pitching at the end of the Toronto Blue Jays' 2-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Liam struck out five of the minimum six batters he faced over two scoreless innings that kept his team in with a chance of a belated rally at home with a decisive 2.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 5k (2.64 ERA). In the top of the eighth Hendriks struck out Cameron Rupp and Cesar Hernandez before getting Ben revere to fly out to centre field. He bamboozled the Phillies again in the top of the ninth with Maikel Franco, Jeff Francoeur and Ryan Howard all struck out. With 22 of 34 pitches thrown for strikes, our man is staking a compelling case for a more prominent role in the Jays' bullpen.

Swinging a red-hit bat lately is New York Yankees short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) who didn't miss the party with 4-5 (.257), including a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs as the 'Bronx Bombers' blitzed the Texas Rangers 21-5.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) didn't record a hit during the Tampa Bay Rays' 10-2 win over the Detroit Tigers, but he did contribute to the victory with a walk and a sacrifice fly RBI in a 0-3 (.245) game as starting centre fielder.

29 JUL 2015 - JAMES BERESFORD HITS AGAINST WARWICK SAUPOLD!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

James Beresford

Didi Gregorius

Australia's classy middle-infielder JAMES BERESFORD has taken his great form from the 'AAA' All Star Game into the second half of the season with another of his trademark hot hitting streaks. Today James batted 3-5 (.307) plus a walk while playing against Detroit Tigers affiliate the Toledo Mud Hens. It continues an eight game hitting streak that has seen him bat a stunning 14-36 with a home run included from a game against Cleveland's Columbus Clippers. The starting pitcher for the Mud hens was Australia's WARWICK SAUPOLD who was making his first appearance at 'AAA' level after spending the past few seasons at 'AA' Eerie. Warwick didn't have it all his own way in taking the loss with 5.2ip 7h 4er 2bb 3k as Beresford's Rochester Red Wings ran away to a huge 13-2 victory. For a bit of added flavour, Toledo also featured former ABL import players TYLER COLLINS and MIKE HESSMAN (from the Melbourne Monarchs in original league).

Recent ABL import DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) appears to be finding a level of comfort with the New York Yankees as the second half of his first season with the club rolls toward the playoffs. He played a vital role both offensively and defensively for the Yanks with a mighty 3-4 (.248) that included a game tying two run homer and four game-breaking RBIs in their 6-2 win over the Texas Rangers. It was Didi's fifth long ball of the season in a game where he also produced a brilliant play as short stop.

Starting centre fielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-3 (.248) and he drove in a run to help the Tampa Bay Rays to beat the Detroit Tigers 5-2.

26 JULY 2015 - LIAM HENDRIKS DECISIVE IN JAYS COMEBACK WIN!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Didi Gregorius

Australian baseball "poster boy" LIAM HENDRIKS was at his highly efficient best with a penetrating 2.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (2.76 ERA) that went a long way to helping his Toronto Blue Jays to overcome a pesky Seattle Mariners 8-6 today. Liam required only 19 pitches, including 14 strikes, to rattle through his two innings after being handed a 3-6 deficit when he took over from the bottom of the fifth inning. With six pitches he had Mark Trumbo ground out to the third baseman, Logan Morrison struck out swinging and Chris Taylor line out to centre field. Up again to roll through the sixth, Hendriks got Jesus Sucre called out on strikes, Austin Jackson to line out to left and Kyle Seager to ground out to second. His confident effort should not be underestimated as a pillar that helped Toronto to mount a winning comeback in the end.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-3 (.248) for the Tampa Bay Rays during their 1-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The previous day he batted 1-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored for the Rays to help them to topple the O's 3-1.

In yesterday's game, veteran backup catcher DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) batted 1-5 (.182) as he finds it increasingly difficult to make an offensive contribution for the Chicago Cubs who were beaten 3-5 by the Philadelphia Phillies.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) contributed a solid 2-4 (.244) for the New York Yankees yesterady but it was not nearly enough to save them from a 1-10 flogging at the hands of the feisty Minnesota Twins.

23 JULY 2015 - LIAM HENDRIKS STRONG IN LOSS TO ATHLETICS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Brandon Maurer

After what seemed like a long interval between outings, Australian star LIAM HENDRIKS was back on the major league hill with an important 1.1ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (2.90 ERA) that helped the Toronto Blue Jays to stay in the game before eventually falling 3-4 to the Oakland Athletics after ten innings. Liam came into the game with two out in the bottom of the fifth to replace starter Felix Doubront who had just allowed a sacrifice fly to extend Oakland's lead to 3-1. With a runner still perched on third base he got former Blue Jay Brett Lawrie to line out to the second baseman to end the inning. Back to take good care of the bottom of the sixth, Hendriks had Josh Phlegley foul out on a pop-up to the catcher, Mark Canha called out on strikes and Marcus Semien line out to the third baseman. It wasn't his fault that the home standing A's won on a walkoff infield single in the bottom of the tenth.

BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) didn't manage to hit with 0-2 (.291), but he walked twice and drove in a run for the Colorado Rockies who lost narrowly 8-10 to the Texas Rangers in a high scoring game.

Suddenly finding the going tougher lately is BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who was saddled with his third loss of the season after an ineffective 0.2ip 3h 3er 1bb 0k that saw his San Diego Padres slide to a 1-7 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. His record also slid to a still very decent 6-3, 2.56 ERA.

DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) batted 1-2 (.181) plus a walk as the starting catcher for the Chicago Cubs who edged the Cincinnati Reds 6-5.

21 JULY 2015 - BRANDON MAURER HOLDS 10th FOR PADRES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Brandon Maurer
Racking up his tenth hold of the season today was established set-up reliever BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who pitched a decisive 1.0ip 1h 0er 0bb 2k (2.00 ERA) as a key part of his San Diego Padres 4-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.

Highlight hogging outfielder KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) also starred offensively for the Tampa Bay Rays today when he doubled and tripled for 2-4 (.250) with two runs scored in their 3-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) batted 1-3 (.294) and he scored a run to help the Colorado Rockies to sneak past the Texas Rangers 8-7. He started at left field for the 'Rox' today.

16 JUL 2015 - JAMES BERESFORD STARS IN 'AAA' ALL STAR GAME WIN!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

James Beresford
Ever impressive Aussie JAMES BERESFORD wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to shine on a big stage when he led the charge for the International League who outlasted the Pacific Coast League 4-3 in a thrilling 'AAA' All Star Game at Werner Park in Omaha. The starting second baseman was front and centre in the very first inning when his sizzling line drive of PCL starter Carlos Pimentel almost cleared the right field fence as the right fielder had barely gloved the ball. In the end James hustled for the one out triple that led to the vital first run of the game. Beresford also led off the top of the sixth with a single but he was ultimately left stranded on third base when the inning concluded.

In a terrific display in the showcase game Beresford distinguished himself with 2-3 and the run scored.

12 JUL 2015 - JAMES BERESFORD EARNS 'AAA' ALL STAR GAME SELECTION!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

James Beresford
Australia's star middle infielder JAMES BERESFORD continues to bubble at 'AAA' level with 3-5 (.307) today plus a RBI as a big contribution to his Rochester Red Wings 8-4 away win over the Washington Nationals' affiliate Syracuse Chiefs. This followed an equally valuable performance of 2-3 with three runs scored in the Wings' 11-2 win over the Chiefs in a seven inning game. James is meritoriously headed for the 'AAA' All Star Game with his selection to represent his Minnesota Twins and the International League on a most prestigious occasion.

Veteran Aussie reliever PETE MOYLAN has now pitched 4.1 scoreless innings over his past three outings as he continues on the comeback trail with Atlanta's 'AAA' Gwinnett Braves.

Back starting at left field for the Colorado Rockies today was BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) who contributed 1-3 (.275) in their last inning 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Yesterday he batted 2-4 and he drove in a run to assist the 'Rox' to down Atlanta 5-3.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-3 (.241) and he scored twice to help the New York Yankees to topple their age old rivals Boston Red Sox 5-1.

10 JULY 2015 - LIAM HENDRIKS HOLDS 4th BUT BATTLES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Kevin Kiermaier

It remains one of the vagaries of baseball scoring that the pitching statistic referred to as a "hold" doesn't always correspond with a positive performance. Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS recorded his fourth hold of the season, yet I'm sure that he wouldn't be overly impressed with the outcome of his brief outing that saw his Toronto Blue Jays eventually slip to a 6-7 defeat by the Chicago White Sox in the eleventh inning. Liam threw 13 of 21 pitches for strikes but the unpredictable 'Chisox' rallied against him while he recorded the line of 0.2ip 3h 2er 0bb 1k (3.00 ERA). Facing a highly experienced lineup to begin the bottom of the sixth, Hendriks saw a 6-4 lead evaporate after Adam LaRoche and Alexei Ramirez both singled into right field to start the frame. He then claimed a couple of outs with Gordon Beckham popping out to the second baseman and Tyler Flowers struck out swinging. Carlos Sanchez then poked a two out RBI single into left field to have the ball taken from our man. Liam's other base runner was cashed in by his bullpen mate Aaron Loup.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.242) with a vital run batted in to help his New York Yankees to overcome the Oakland Athletics 5-4.

The recent season speed bump continued for ABL import BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who was unable to get an out with 0.0ip 2h 1er 1bb 0k (2.13 ERA) for the San Diego Padres during their 2-5 loss to the in-form Pittsburgh Pirates.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-3 (.255) plus a walk as the starting centre fielder for the Tampa Bay Rays in their 3-8 loss to the Kansas City Royals today. Yesterday he batted 1-4 in another 7-9 defeat by KC.

9 JULY 2015 - ALLAN de SAN MIGUEL BACK IN 'AAA' ACTION!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

A. de San Miguel
Great to see Aussie ALLAN de SAN MIGUEL back in main stream professional baseball, finally making his long awaited return from the disabled list to play with Minnesota's 'AAA' Rochester Red Wings. Hopefully he can re-establish himself as a contender for future major league selection.

San Diego Padres reliever BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) was saddled with his second straight loss with 0.2ip 2h 1er 1bb 0k at the end of their 1-2 loss to the in-form Pittsburgh Pirates. Maurer gave up the winning run in the ninth inning to see his record slip to a still impressive 5-2, 1.91 ERA.

The aggressive base running of the exuberant KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) came to the fore when he hustled for a leadoff triple that enabled him to score a run via a wild pitch. He batted 1-4 (.255) for the Tampa Bay Rays who were eclipsed 5-9 by the Kansas City Royals. He also batted 1-4 in the other double-header game that Tampa Bay lost 1-7 to the Royals.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.242) plus a RBI for the New York Yankees who were edged 3-4 by the Oakland Athletics in ten innings.

6 JULY 2015 - KEVIN KIERMAIER IMPRESSING WITH RAYS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Kevin Kiermaier
Recent ABL imports were in opposition again with KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batting a very handy 2-4 (.255) that helped the Tampa Bay Rays to overrun the New York Yankees 8-1. In the Yankees camp short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) came up empty with 0-4 (.242) in this game.

JAMES JONES (Adelaide Bite 2012) was also given another start at the top of the Seattle Mariners' lineup card in their skin-tight 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics. Unfortunately Jones was unable to get anything happening with a pair of strike outs among his 0-4 (.000) game. Jones patrolled both centre field and right field during the game.

Settling in at left field for the Colorado Rockies is BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) who batted 1-3 (.277) plus a walk to help the 'Rox' to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4.

5 JULY 2015 - BRANDON MAURER TAKES FIRST LOSS - A TOUGH ONE!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Brandon Maurer
After a very good run of success this season, San Diego Padres' reliever BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) was saddled with his first loss today in somewhat tough circumstances when his team fell 1-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Maurer did not allow an earned run while pitching the bottom of the eighth in a tied ballgame, but he was unfairly punished when a defensive error allowed the leadoff batter to get on base. That batter made his way to third via a stolen base and a ground out, thereby enabling the go-ahead and eventual winning run to score with a sacrifice fly. Maurer recorded the pitching line of 1.0ip 0h 1r 0er 0bb 1k with his season record now standing at 5-1, 1.73 ERA. Yesterday Brandon threw a neat 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k in the Padres' 2-1 win over the Cards.

New York Yankees short stop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) contributed 1-3 (.246) for the New York Yankees who nudged past the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 today. He was also productive yesterday with 2-3 plus a walk in the Yanks 7-5 win over the Rays. KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 0-3 (.251) for Tampa today, but he fared much better yesterday with 2-5 plus a RBI and a run scored.

3 JULY 2015 - LIAM HENDRIKS STEMS BOSTON BASHING!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Kevin Kiermaier
Aussie star LIAM HENDRIKS did precisely the job sometimes asked of a middle reliever or "long man" when he was required to stop the bleeding for the Toronto Blue Jays who were plundered 6-12 by the suddenly surging Boston Red Sox.
Liam was hardly given sufficient time to warm up when Toronto starter Matt Boyd ran into a buzz-saw in the top of the very first inning and the Red Sox had five runs on the board while still not suffering their first out of the game. With a runner on second, Hendriks was rudely greeted by Alejandro De Aza's triple to deep centre that plated another run. He got Ryan Hanigan to line out to the second baseman, but Mookie Betts ripped a single to left field to plate Liam's one and only earned run of the outing. Betts stole second base, but he was soon out at third when Brock holt grounded into a fielder's choice to the third baseman. The eight-run inning was finally ended with Xander Bogaerts grounding out to the short stop.
Hendriks then went on to restore some sanity to the game with a breezy seven pitch top of the second that saw Boston's "big dogs" David Ortiz pop out to the third baseman, Hanley Ramirez fly out to right field and Pablo Sandoval line out to left field. With half of the deficit cut back to 4-8, Liam maintained some momentum for the Jays with another swift top of the third. With only nine more pitches he had Mike Napoli ground out to first, Alejandro De Aza fly out to left and Ryan Hanigan ground out to second. In the context of walking into the eye of the storm, Hendriks did a mighty job for his team with 3.0ip 3h 1er 0bb 0k (2.58 ERA) at the Rogers Centre today.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-5 (.251) with his 16th doiuble of the season for the Tampa Bay Rays who were squeaked out 4-5 by the feisty Cleveland Indians.
