31 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS & PETE MOYLAN BOTH LEAK A RUN!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Aside from the extra-heavy bat of journeyman slugger Mike Napoli, Australian relief pitcher LIAM HENDRIKS would probably have continued his recent streak of scoreless outings today. Liam was called to duty somewhat early this morning when Oakland's starting pitcher couldn't make it out of the fourth inning in Cleveland and he inherited a runner on second with only one out in the frame. He secured the second out with Francisco Lindor grounding out to the second baseman before Napoli squared one up for his big two-run long ball over straight-away centre field. Hendriks ended the inning by having Carlos Santana - not the famous guitarist - struck out swinging.
Liam was back to put away the bottom of the fifth with punch outs of Jose Ramirez and Abraham Almonte either side of veteran Juan Uribe grounding out to short. As we said, it was another strong effort from our man aside from that one "mistake pitch" to Napoli in what was a 3-6 loss for his Oakland Athletics on the road against the solid Cleveland Indians. His line for the day was 1.2ip 1h 1r 1er 0bb 3k (4.58 ERA).

Resilient Aussie PETER MOYLAN was unable to escape unscathed during his brief relief outing for the Kansas City Royals who were bettered 3-8 by the Texas Rangers. Pete took the ball to begin the bottom of the seventh inning where he was rudely greeted by Ian Desmond who led off the inning with a booming double to centre field. Desmond advanced to third on a wild pitch before Adrian Beltre grounded out to the shortstop. At that point Moylan was lifted, only to witness his base runner scoring immediately via another wild pitch that saddled him with the earned run. He was left with the line of 0.1ip 1h 1r 1er 0bb 0k (4.38 ERA).

The only plural hitter for the Detroit Tigers this morning was TYLER COLLINS (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) who supplied two of their seven hits with 2-3 (.231) and a run scored to help them to edge the Houston Astros 3-2. Collins launched his third home run of the season yesterday while batting 2-4 with three big RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

To add to a productive day for former ABL alumni, KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) batted 2-4 (.163) for the Milwaukee Brewers who outlasted the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 at Miller Park. Broxton also did his job in a 3-1 win over the 'Buccos' yesterday with 1-2 including two walks and a run batted in.

Baltimore Orioles reliever MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) took some rare lumps today while pitching 0.2ip 2h 2er 1bb 2k (3.66 ERA) during their 1-9 thumping by the division rival Toronto Blue Jays.

Reportedly in his final major league season, 39yo catcher DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) continues to be a valuable contributor for the Chicago Cubs with 2-4 (.233) with a RBI and two runs scored as part of their big 12-1 flogging of the Seattle Mariners.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) delivered a double while batting 1-2 (.215) with a run scored to help the Tampa Bay Rays to double the New York Yankees 6-3 today. DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 0-3 (.295) for the Yanks.

Helping the San Diego Padres to ultimately win a ten inning game narrowly 2-1 over the Cincinnati Reds was reliever BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who pitched the ninth inning with a tidy 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (4.50 ERA).

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) walked once while batting 0-1 (.203) after entering the game as a pinch hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies who rolled the Atlanta Braves 9-5.

29 JULY 2016 - BROXTON & GREGORIUS BOTH HIT TWICE!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Keon Broxton
Recent ABL import KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) played a decisive role for the Milwaukee Brewers today by starting at centre field and by batting 1-4 (.135) with two RBIs to help them to roll the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4.

Shortstop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) supplied two of the New York Yankees paltry five hits with 2-4 (.298) in their 1-4 defeat by the Houston Astros.

In a non-save situation, BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) closed out the San Diego Padres 8-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays with a competent 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (4.59 ERA).

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-3 (.215) plus a walk as a decent contribution to the Tampa Bay Rays' 3-1 win overt the Los Angeles Dodgers.

27 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS COLLECTS HIS SECOND HOLD FOR A's!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Tyler Collins
Keon Broxton

Aussie ace LIAM HENDRIKS picked up his second hold in as many days when he pitched another most important 1.2ip 1h 0r 0er 1bb 3k (4.54 ERA) that certainly helped his Oakland Athletics to double the tough Texas Rangers 6-3. Hendriks took over from A's starter Sonny Gray for the bottom of the seventh that he handled quite brilliantly with three successive strike out victims. He fanned Ryan Rua, Mitch Moreland and Robinson Chirinos for a three up, three down innings that maintained Oakland's 5-3 lead at the time. In the bottom of the eighth Liam had to deal with a leadoff single from young gun Jurickson Profar before getting Nomar Mazara to fly out to left and Ian Desmond to ground into a fielder's choice to the shortstop that took out the lead runner at second base. He then pitched carefully to dangerous veteran Adrian Beltre who took a four pitch walk that was the end of the day for our man. Long may his streak of scoreless outings continue!

Seasoned former ABL pitcher BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) pitched a very sturdy 2.0ip 1h 0er 0bb 1k (4.69 ERA) in middle relief for the San Diego Padres, but it was not enough to save them from a 6-7 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.

TYLER COLLINS (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) made a solid contribution for the Detroit Tigers as the starting centre fielder by batting 1-4 (.190) with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs that helped then to sneak past the Boston Red Sox 9-8 at Fenway Park.

Getting a somewhat rare start at centre field for the Milwaukee Brewers was KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) who batted 1-3 (.134) plus a walk and a run scored as part of their 9-4 win over the equally struggling Arizona Diamondbacks.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.296) with a RBI for the New York Yankees who doubled the home-standing Houston Astros 6-3.

Making a start at left field JI-MAN CHOI (Adelaide Bite 2013) chimed in with 1-6 (.175) and two RBIs for the Los Angeles Angels who pummelled the World Champion Kansas City Royals 13-0.

26 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS HOLD & PETE MOYLAN ALSO GOOD!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Ji-Man Choi

Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS continues to maintain his terrific run of six scoreless outings and 7.2 innings with his latest 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (4.76 ERA) that earned him a hold for the Oakland Athletics who lost a heartbreaker 6-7 to the Texas Rangers via two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Pitching the bottom of the sixth, Hendriks preserved the A's 5-4 lead at the time with a very tidy 1-2-3 inning. He first got Bobby Wilson to foul out to the first baseman before having Delino DeShields struck out swinging and Jurickson Profar popping out on the infield to the shortstop. Keep it rolling Liam!

Fellow Aussie PETE MOYLAN recorded exactly the same pitching line with 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (4.07 ERA) for the Kansas City Royals who were defeated 2-6 by the visiting Los Angeles Angels.
Pete inherited a base runner on first with none out in the top of the sixth before killing off that inning with seven of ten pitches thrown for strikes. The first batter he faced, Carlos Perez, advanced the runner to second with a sacrifice bunt fielded by the pitcher, but that proved to be the end of the threat. Moylan struck out Johnny Giavotella on four pitches, then he got Yunel Escobar to ground out to the third baseman.
The base runner who intially reached on an error in the inning was former ABL import JI-MAN CHOI (Adelaide Bite 2013) who also batted 1-4 (.175) for the game.

Converted former ABL infielder MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) did his job again as a middle reliever for the Baltimore Orioles with 1.1ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (3.43 ERA) that helped them to hold off the Colorado Rockies in a narrow 3-2 win.

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) was used as a pinch runner and he ultimately crossed the plate for the Philadelphia Phillies as one of their run scorers in a 4-0 shutout win over the Miami Marlins.

Helping the New York Yankees to eke out a tough 2-1 win over the Houston Astros was shortstop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) who batted 1-4 (.296) and he scored a run.

24 JULY 2016 - BRANDON MAURER SAVES 4th FOR PADRES!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Brandon Maurer
Tyler Collins
ABL import pitcher BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) recorded his fourth hold of the season yesterday with 1.1ip 0h 0er 1bb 2k (5.00 ERA) as the closer for the San Diego Padres who held off the Washington Nationals 5-3.

Starting shortstop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) continues to be a leading force for the New York Yankees offence with 2-5 (.297) as their only multi-hitter in their 1-2 home loss to the San Francisco Giants.

MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched a sturdy 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (3.53 ERA) with ten of 13 pitches thrown for strikes in middle relief for the Baltimore Orioles who defeated the Cleveland Indians 5-2 today.

TYLER COLLINS (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) batted 1-5 (.167) as the starting right fielder for the Detroit Tigers to help them to prevail 7-5 over their division rivals Chicago White Sox.

Settling back at centre field after an extended injury layoff is Platinum Glove winner KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) who batted 1-5 (.219) for the Tampa Bay Rays who couldn't cross the plate in a 1-0 shutout loss to the unpredictable Oakland Athletics after 13 barren innings.

21 JULY 2016 - PETER MOYLAN STRUGGLES; LIAM HENDRIKS STAYS STRONG!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Tyler Goeddel

Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS continues to grind away at his ERA with two more impressive scoreless innings that certainly helped his Oakland Athletics to finally outlast the Houston Astros in a tense 10 inning game. Liam had the very important task of keeping the game within reach when he came to the hill with one on and one out in the top of the eighth and with his team trailing 2-3 at the time.
He cleaned up that frame by getting Luis Valbuena to ground out back to himself for the assist, then he got Carlos Gomez to to fly out to centre field. Hendriks next made swift work of the top of the ninth with Colby Rasmus grounding out to first, Evan Gattis grounding out to short and Jake Marisnick flying out to right.
After Oakland had dramatically tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, Hendriks secured two more big outs in the top of the tenth with George Springer flying out to right field and Marwin Gonzalez fouling out to the first baseman. When All Star Jose Altuve singled up the middle his managed decided that he had done enough and he was clearly a major factor in the eventual win for the A's. His impressive line was 2.0ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (5.06ERA)… nice work Liam!

Veteran Aussie PETER MOYLAN has enjoyed a lot more success than failure over his considerable time in the US big leagues, however, he certainly endured a horror outing today for the Kansas City Royals who were thrashed 11-4 by the high-rolling Cleveland Indians this morning.
In fairness, Pete was asked to halt a runaway train after KC starter Ian Kennedy had been shelled for seven runs with only one out in the top of the fifth inning. It proved to be a futile task for him when Jose Ramirez walked and Lonnie Chisenhall singled up the middle to set the table for Rajai Davis to deliver a RBI single into centre field. Worse was to follow when Tyler Naquin dinged a three run "jack" 443ft over the centre field fence to expand the lead to 11-0. Moylan finally secured the second out of the inning when Roberto Perez grounded out to the second baseman, but Cleveland rallied again via Carlos Santana's walk and a Jason Kipnis single into centre field that saw the big Aussie given the hook. It all left him with the rather ugly line of 0.1ip 4h 4r 4er 2bb 0k (4.24 ERA). As we have said often enough… such is the life of a relief pitcher at times!

Philadelphia Phillies left fielder TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) made a spectacular return to their starting lineup today by blasting his fourth home run of the season while batting 2-4 (.216) with three RBIs to help them to roll over the Miami Marlins 4-1.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) pushed his season average to the brink of the .300 plateau by batting 2-3 (.299) plus a walk for the suddenly resurgent New York Yankees who skittled the division leading Baltimore Orioles 7-1. In the same game Baltimore reliever MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched 1.0ip 1h 2er 1bb 0k (3.61 ERA) at the end of the losing cause.
In today's game, starting right fielder and leadoff hitter, JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-4 (.268) for the Orioles who were blanked 0-5 by the Yankees.

KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 1-4 (.226) with a base on balls and a run batted in as part of the offence that piled on for a 10-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) batted 0-3 (.232) for the 'Rox'.

18 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS DOES HIS JOB v TORONTO!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Brandon Maurer

Aussie reliever LIAM HENDRIKS continues to pitch really solidly lately with his latest 1.1ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 0k (5.40 ERA) during his Oakland Athletics 3-5 defeat by the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. As a sign of the growing trust shown by his manager, Hendriks was given the tough task of facing reigning MVP slugger Josh Donaldson with two on and two out in the top of the seventh and with the game on a deadlocked knife edge at 3-3.
He weathered that potential storm by getting the All Star Donaldson to pop out to the third baseman in foul territory. Liam then returned for the top of the eighth which started with both Edwin Encarnacion and Russell Martin grounding out to the shortstop. Michael Saunders got aboard by working a full count walk, but the score remained at 3-3 after Troy Tulowitzky flied out the centre field on the first pitch he faced.
Our guy had done his job although it didn't help secure the win when the aforementioned Josh Donaldson later delivered a two RBI double to take the points for the Blue Jays.

Right fielder TYLER COLLINS (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) batted 1-4 (.161) and he scored a run to help his Detroit Tigers to double the Kansas City Royals 4-2.

JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-3 (.265) for the Baltimore Orioles who fell 2-5 to the home standing Tampa Bay Rays.

Helping to nail the San Diego Padres 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants was BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who recoded his third save of the season with 1.0ip 1h 0er 0bb 0k (5.15 ERA).

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) again did his job offensively for the struggling New York Yankees by batting 2-3 (.299) and scoring a key run during their sweep-avoiding 3-1 win over the travelling Boston Red Sox.

17 JULY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN & LIAM HENDRIKS BOTH COME UP BIG!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Tyler Collins

Mychal Givens

Australia's resilient reliever PETER MOYLAN collected his first hold of the season today by pitching a convincing 1.2ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 0k (2.74 ERA) that helped his Kansas City Royals to double the Detroit Tigers 8-4. Pete made a most important entrance to the game with runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the seventh, just after the Tigers had scored their fourth run and they were threatening to get back into the contest. Not for the first time Pete was able to summon his "best friend", an inning ending double play, when he induced Jose Iglesias to ground to the shortstop. Moylan also banked the bottom of the eighth with Ian Kinsler lining out to the third baseman and Cameron Maybin grounding out to the second baseman. MVP slugger 'Big Mig' Miguel Cabrera singled up the middle, but he did not advance when veteran Victor Martinez grounded out to the third baseman. In the same game former ABL import TYLER COLLINS (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) batted 1-3 (.148) and he drove in a run as the starting left fielder. Yesterday Collins nailed his first home run of the season while batting 1-4 for the Tigers in their 4-2 win over KC.

Younger Aussie LIAM HENDRIKS was also very effective yesterday with 1.2ip 1h 0r 0er 1bb 1k (5.65 ERA) to help the Oakland Athletics to finally overrun the Toronto Blue Jays 8-7 in a tight one. Liam was summoned to action early when Oakland starter Daniel Mengden was shelled and he left our man with a one on and one out situation in the top of the fourth. Much like Moylan today, Hendriks turned to an inning ending double play at a critical time when he got the ultra dangerous Edwin Encarnacion to roll over one to the shortstop. Back for the top of the fifth there was a bit of pressure when Michael Saunders milked a leadoff walk and Russell Martin followed with a single up the middle. Facing a tough part of the Blue Jays lineup Liam responded to get Troy Tulowitzki to line out to right, Justin Smoak struck out swinging and Kevin Pillar to ground out to the second baseman. No doubt Hendriks' effort definitely helped the A's to stay close enough to mount a successful comeback in this game.

New York Yankees shortstop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-3 (.295) but he also committed a crucial error during the Yanks' 2-5 home defeat at the hands of their bitter rival Boston Red Sox.

A pair of recent ABL imports were in opposition today during the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Righht fielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-3 (.264) for the Orange Birds while KEVIN KIERMAIER (Canberra Cavalry 2012) batted 0-2 (.227) with a walk as the centre fielder for the Rays.
In yesterday's game between these same teams MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) recorded his seventh win of the 2016 season with 1.0ip 0h 0er 1bb 0k in the Orioles 4-3 win over the Rays. His season record now stands at 7-1, 3.27 ERA.

11 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS TAKES A TOUGH LOSS IN HOUSTON!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Joey Rickard

Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS took a tough loss leading into the All Star break when he pitched at the pointy end of the Oakland Athletics narrow 1-2 defeat by the Houston Astros in the tenth inning. Liam was entrusted with the bottom of the tenth frame in a deadlocked 1-1 ballgame and he was desperately unlucky not to have kept the game tied with a scoreless inning, even after Jake Marisnick singled up the middle from the first pitch of the inning. Hendriks struck out the emerging George Springer while Marisnick stole second base. He then rumbled to third on a ground ball out to the first baseman by Marwin Gonzalez. Liam was then instructed to intentionally walk the hot-hitting Jose Altuve with the open base available. A potential inning ending ground ball to the third baseman ended in tears for the A's when a throwing error on the play allowed the winning run to cross the plate. His unfortunate pitching line for the game was 0.2ip 1h 1r 0er 1bb 1k to leave his season record standing at 0-2, 6.00 ERA.

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) batted 1-4 (.298) with a run scored that contributed to the New York Yankees 11-7 win over the Cleveland Indians.

After taking over as a defensive replacement in the outfield, JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted
1-3 (.267) for the division leading Baltimore Orioles who rolled past the Los Angeles Angels 4-2.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) pitched at the end of the San Diego Padres 1-3 loss to the local rival Los Angeles Dodgers with a tidy 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (5.53 ERA). He threw 11 of 15 pitches for strikes while doing the prescribed job for his team.

Two recent ABL imports started in the outfield for their respective teams during the Philadelphia Phillies 10-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. Left fielder BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) batted 1-4 (.241) and he scored a run for the 'Rox' while TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 0-5 (.209) for the 'Phils'.

10 JULY 2016 - DIDI GREGORIUS HOMERS AGAIN FOR No.11!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Didi Gregorius
In the midst of a rather dramatic power surge is shortstop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) who launched another home run today, his eleventh of the season, while batting 1-5 (.298) with a walk and two RBIs to help his New York Yankees to outlast the Cleveland Indians 7-6 over eleven innings. Yesterday Didi also batted 2-3 for the Yankees who only managed seven safe hits in their 2-10 defeat by 'The Tribe'.

MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched a very handy 2.0ip 1h 0er 1bb 1k (3.35 ERA) as a middle relief "bridge" for the Baltimore Orioles to help them hang on for a narrow 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Doing his job as a pinch hitter for the Colorado Rockies this morning was BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) who batted 1-2 (.241) plus a run batted in to help them to roll over the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3.

8 JULY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN STRONG v SEATTLE MARINERS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan
Australia's PETER MOYLAN played a small but useful role in helping his Kansas City Royals to edge past the Seattle Mariners 4-3 this morning. Pete's 0.2ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 0k (2.95 ERA) in the seventh inning helped to keep the Royals in range as they were trailing 0-2 at the time. He came into the game with one on and one out, just after the previous batter had been walked on five pitches by tiring starter Danny Duffy. Moylan started by getting Shawn O'Malley to fly out to left field before he issued a four pitch walk to Ketel Marte to push a runner into scoring position. However, Pete was able to do what he has done so often over a long major league career by inducing a ground ball from Franklin Gutierrez who grounded into an inning ending fielder's choice to the shortstop. That was all that was asked of him today.

Still running hot with the stick lately is shortstop DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) who clocked his tenth home run of the season while batting 2-4 (.296) with the RBI and two runs scored as a key contributor for the New York Yankees who snipped the Cleveland Indians 5-4.

BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) started at left field today with 1-3 (.235) plus a RBI as part of the Colorado Rockies 11-2 flogging of the Philadelphia Phillies.

7 JULY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN CLEAN; LIAM HENDRIKS TAKEN DEEP!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan

Mychal Givens

Veteran Australian PETER MOYLAN pitched a neat inning of relief for the Kansas City Royals with 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (3.05 ERA) at the end of their 3-8 defeat by the tough Toronto Blue Jays. With the game already out of hand for KC, Moylan was entrusted with the bottom of the eighth and he got the job done nicely in spite of his own error that allowed leadoff batter Devon Travis to reach first base safely. He quickly made good on that miscue by having Travis doubled off first when Josh Thole lined out sharply to the first baseman. Pete followed that by striking out Ezequiel Carrera on three straight pitches to end the inning decisively.

Aussie star LIAM HENDRIKS had to trade a home run ball for the one out he was asked to get at the end of his Oakland Athletics 4-11 loss to his original club the Minnesota Twins. Liam was summoned from the bullpen with two on and two out in the bottom of the eighth, not long after the Twins had doubled the A's with an 8-4 lead. Unfortunately Hendriks couldn't keep the ball in the park on this occasion when emerging Minnesota powerhouse Miguel Sano tagged a three-run homer over right field to add some icing to the cake for his team. He then battled Brian Dozier before getting him to ground out to the shortstop to end the inning a tad too late. His pitching line for the game was 0.1ip 1h 1r 1er 0bb 0k (6.15 ERA).

Former Perth Heat short stop MYCHAL GIVENS (2012) continues to make his mark as a big league relief pitcher with his sixth win of the season coming today when his Baltimore Orioles outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 over a 14 inning epic at Dodger Stadium in LA today. Givens pitched the bottom of the 12th frame with 1.0ip 1h 0er 0bb 1k to take his positive season record to 6-1, 3.52 ERA. His Baltimore team mate JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted 1-1 (.268) to do his job as a pinch hitter.

Old "Grey Beard" DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) batted 1-2 (.234) plus a walk for the Chicago Cubs who fell 5-9 to the lowly Cincinnati Reds.

BRANDON BARNES (Sydney Blue Sox 2012) was a defensive replacement at left field for the Colorado Rockies during their 7-3 win over the San Francisco Giants. He took his opportunity to hit 1-3 (.240)

5 JULY 2016 - PETE MOYLAN SOLID ENOUGH v TORONTO!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Peter Moylan
Seasoned Australian reliever PETER MOYLAN pitched a fairly quiet inning for the Kansas City Royals at the bitter end of their 2-6 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Pete pitched 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 0k (3.20 ERA) when he was handed the ball for the bottom of the eighth inning at the Rogers Centre. He faced the minimum three batters by erasing a one out walk issued to Troy Tulowitzki, getting Kevin Pillar to ground into an inning ending double play that he initiated himself. Leadoff hitter Russell Martin flied out to centre field after working a full count.

Starting left fielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) did his best to lift the Baltimore Orioles by batting 1-3 (.265) with two RBIs, but it was not enough to save them from a 5-7 loss on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the same game his team mate MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 1k (3.62 ERA) as a middle reliever.

BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) pitched a low-pressure inning of 1.0ip 0h 0er 0bb 2k (5.67 ERA) at the end of the San Diego Padres 8-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He did the specified job of pounding the strike zone with 9 of 13 pitches thrown for strikes in a non-save situation in the bottom of the ninth.

Australia's 31st major leaguer LIAM HENDRIKS continues to ride a strong run of form with another scoreless relief outing for the Oakland Athletics who were doubled 3-6 by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hendriks was given the tough task of facing a bases loaded jam with two out in the top of the sixth, but he proved up to the task by getting Jung Ho Kang struck out on a full count to end the inning. He then kept the score close at 3-4 by pitching a quick-fire top of the seventh, beginning with Starling Marte who grounded the first pitch of the inning back to the mound for Liam's assist. Experienced Matt Joyce singled to right field but he still faced the minimum when he induced Josh Harrison to ground into an inning ending double play to the short stop. Hendriks' line for the game was 1.1ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 1k (5.88 ERA).

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) launched his ninth home run of the season while batting 1-5 (.291) with the RBI and two runs scored to help the ever-competitive New York Yankees to double the San Diego Padres 6-3.

2 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS STRONG AGAIN FOR OAKLAND!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Joey Rickard

Aussie pitcher LIAM HENDRIKS continues to come on strong lately as he gets back into the flow of regular work following his recent stint on the disabled list.
He was particularly sharp in his latest outing that produced a convincing 2.0ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 2k (6.20 ERA) for the Oakland Athletics who lost 3-7 to the unpredictable Pittsburgh Pirates. Taking over the bump for the top of the seventh inning Hendriks made short work of Chris Stewart who flied out to centre field, John Jaso who flied out to right and Gregory Polanco who grounded out to the second baseman.
With that efficient inning in the bank, Liam had no trouble coming back for the top of the eighth that began with superstar Andrew McCutchen grounding back to the mound, then Starling Marte struck out swinging. He was then a tad unlucky to allow a base runner when David Freese reached on an infield single to the short stop, however, that counted for little when Matt Joyce was struck out swinging to end the inning.

Recording a big save for the San Diego Padres was BRANDON MAURER (Adelaide Bite 2011) who trod the tightrope with 1.0ip 1h 1er 0bb 0k (5.82 ERA) to help his team to sneak over the line 7-6 against the visiting New York Yankees. DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) did pretty much all he could for the Yanks with 2-4 (.293) plus a RBI in the ninth inning that helped his team to roar back into the contest from a 2-7 deficit.

Starting right fielder JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) batted at the bottom of the lineup card for the Baltimore Orioles in their 2-5 loss to the Seattle Mariners. He did his job by batting 1-2 (.263) plus a walk, yet it was not enough for the O's this time.

KEON BROXTON (Sydney Blue Sox 2014) earned another start at centre field for the Milwaukee Brewers in their 1-7 defeat by the St.Louis Cardinals. Keon didn't manage a safe hit with 0-3 (.125) but he did manage to walk once for a team that had very few base runners.

1 JULY 2016 - LIAM HENDRIKS SOLID IN RELIEF v GIANTS!
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Australia's LIAM HENDRIKS pitched solidly in relief with 1.1ip 1h 0r 0er 1bb 1k (6.75 ERA) for the Oakland Athletics to help them to keep the San Francisco Giants at bay in their 7-1 win at Oakland Coliseum.
Liam took the ball with a runner in scoring position at second base with two out in the top of the sixth inning and he stranded the runner by getting Brandon Crawford to ground out to the short stop.
He was up again for the top of the seventh that began well with Trevor Brown struck out swinging before Mac Williamson milked a full count walk. Conor Gillaspie singled to left centre to pose a threat, but Hendriks snuffed it out by getting Ruben Tejada to ground into a fielder's choice to third and Denard Span to line out to the short stop. It was a neat enough outing for our man.

Former ABL infielder DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) continues to endear himself to those ever demanding New York Yankees fans by producing half of their winning score today with his eighth home run of the season. Gregorius tied the score in the bottom of the fifth with the long ball that gave him the game stat of 1-3 (.290) with the RBI and the run scored in the Yanks 2-1 win over the visiting Texas Rangers. Yesterday Gregorius batted 2-5 with two RBIs and a run scored to help the Yankees to overrun the Rangers 9-7 with six runs in the bottom of the ninth!

Two recent ABL imports took the field for the Baltimore Orioles in their big 12-5 win over the San Diego Padres. JOEY RICKARD (Brisbane Bandits 2014) played both corner outfield positions while batting 0-5 (.261) with a run batted in, while MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched 0.1ip 0h 0er 0bb 0k (3.60 ERA) at the end of the game.

TYLER GOEDDEL (Brisbane Bandits 2014) did his job as a pinch hitter by driving in a run via a sacrifice fly for the Philadelphia Phillies who edged the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-8 in a tight one.
