Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

David Ross
Apparently real life "fairytale stories" can produce fairytale endings, in this case for the 'Cinderella' Chicago Cubs and their popular veteran catcher DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001). Down 1-3 in the World Series to the tenacious Cleveland Indians, the 'Cubbies' finally ended 108 years of futile derision, and sometimes ridicule, by battling back to win an epic Game 7 in Cleveland.

As it turned out, 'Grandpa Rossy" was to enter the game as the specialist catcher for Jon Lester when he was summoned from the bullpen in the bottom of the fifth inning. In keeping with the incredible drama of this World Series, Ross enjoyed one last slice of personal glory in his final major league game when he hammered a sixth inning homer off the Indians' nasty left hander Andrew Miller in a vital contribution to Chicago's amazing, drought-breaking, 8-7 win after ten innings!

David Ross
In what he has already announced to be his final season as a player, popular veteran DAVID ROSS (MLB All-Stars 2001) has the opportunity to put the icing on his remarkable career as a platoon catcher with several winning ballclubs by adding a fairytale World Series win for the storied Chicago Cubs who have waited over 100 years for one!

The guy that 'Cubbies' fans adoring call "Grandpa Rossy" was behind the dish as the "personal catcher" for ace lefty Jon Lester who was not at his sharpest in Game 1 when the Cubs were shut out 0-6 by the Indians in Cleveland.

Ross, who played in the long forgotten IBLA during his summer in Australia way back in 2001, has previously earned himself a World Series ring with the 2013 Boston Red Sox and another would be a great retirement gift for the resilient gloveman.

Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

Liam Hendriks

Didi Gregorius

Aussie right hander LIAM HENDRIKS finished his 2016 season on a most positive note by recording his tenth hold of the campaign as part of the Oakland Athletics tight 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners away at Safeco Field.
Hendriks struck out a pair to tuck away another convincing line of 1.0ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 2k while throwing eleven of fifteen pitches for strikes in the bottom of the seventh. In a crisp clinic of strike throwing, Liam got Dae-Ho Lee struck out swinging, Ben Gamel to foul out to the shortstop and experienced Chris Iannetta to strike out swinging.
The day prior, Hendriks pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings for the A's as an important contribution to their narrow and high-scoring 9-8 win over Seattle after ten innings. Liam came into this game with one out in the bottom of the fifth, immediately after Seattle superstar Robinson Cano had clocked a two-run homer to narrow Oakland's lead to 5-4 at the time. He secured a couple of tough outs to end the inning with dangerous Nelson Cruz grounding out to third and young stud Kyle Seager struck out swinging on just four pitches. As he can do so successfully as a former starter, Hendriks was up for the task of returning for another inning in the important bottom of the sixth that he tucked away decisively. He began by getting Adam Lind to ground out to the shortstop ahead of a four pitch walk issued to Leonys Martin. The walk did not haunt him when he fanned both Mike Zunino and Katel Marte to polish of his work in style.
His impressive line for this game was 1.2ip 0h 0r 0er 1bb 3k.
Hendriks' final ERA of 3.76 represents a terrific response after a somewhat difficult start that saw him spend some time on the disabled list this season. Let's hope that the upcoming arbitration process for him brings him what he deserves after years of diligent performance at the highest level. Good luck Liam!

DIDI GREGORIUS (Canberra Cavalry 2011) ended a productive season with 2-4 (.276) and a run batted in for the New York Yankees who were topped 2-5 by the Baltimore Orioles who now have a post season Wild Card Game date.
Here is an update of what some Aussies and former AMLB imports have been doing in the US major leagues:

James Beresford
Australia's star infielder JAMES BERESFORD continues to prove himself well and truly worthy of his place at baseballs pinnacle with another base hit today while starting at first base for the Minnesota Twins in their 6-0 shutout win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Batting in the #9 hole, Beresford came to bat for the first time in the top of the third and he grounded out to the third baseman while facing 'Big Game James' Shields for the third out of the inning. Against Shields again in the top of the fifth, James battled him to a 2-2 count before grounding out to the short stop. In the top of the seventh he didn't waste any time to attack Shields early by clipping an infield single to the short stop from the first pitch he saw. Beresford was later to become Minnesota's final out for the game in the top of the ninth when he was called out on strikes while facing Michael Ynoa. It left him with a decent 1-4 day in a winning ballgame and he also added another double play to his defensive efforts.

The usually reliable MYCHAL GIVENS (Perth Heat 2012) pitched another effective 1.0ip 0h 0er 1bb 0k (3.13 ERA) for the Baltimore Orioles in the midst of their 3-7 defeat by the New York Yankees.
